Cities

The Cities

Six cities stand open. Each rises as the story moves through them.

The Royal Capital

CIRTA

The capital of Massinissa's kingdom, perched on a plateau in modern Constantine, Algeria. Cirta held the royal treasury, the royal court, and the strategic high ground of eastern Numidia.

The Metropolis

CARTHAGE

The wealthiest city in the western Mediterranean. Its harbors held hundreds of warships; its walls enclosed a population larger than Rome's. Carthage was the rival that defined Rome's century.

The Alps

The wall of mountains that stood between Hannibal and Rome. In 218 BCE he led his army — Numidian cavalry, Iberian infantry, and war elephants — across the Alps in winter, descending into Italy from a direction Rome thought impossible.
