The Leather
Dark, weathered, cracked leather with a rich organic grain. Each cover unique — textured by the hide it was cut from, aged by intention.
MASSINISSA was never designed to feel newly printed.
It was designed to feel discovered.
Like something preserved inside a royal archive.
Like an object carried through generations.
Like history that survived.
Material
Weathered full-grain walnut leather, chosen for its natural grain and its capacity to age beautifully. The cover is hand-finished with burnished edges and archival construction — an heirloom object made to be held, not merely shelved.
The Yaz
The Amazigh YAZ is not decoration. It is deeply branded into the leather itself — permanently impressed into the hide, not printed or applied afterward. It represents freedom. Identity. Resistance. Legacy.
Form
Tall library proportions. Thick cream archival paper. Rounded corners. Smyth sewn binding. A substantial page block built for heirloom durability — the architecture of a book designed to outlast the hands that first open it.
The Character Archive
History remembers kingdoms.
Stories remember the people who built them.
Kings, soldiers, scholars, daughters, fathers, rivals and survivors. The world of MASSINISSA is revealed one life at a time.

The People Become the World
Every life belongs to a house.
Every house leaves a mark upon the world.
B. Ross Burley
Book I of the BROWNBLOODS Saga
The first volume of a seven-book historical epic
spanning more than two thousand years.
Three acts. A lifetime. No spoilers.
The questions the novel does not answer, but refuses to let you forget.
The novel argues that the true measure of a people is not what they destroy but what they build.
History is written by victors. Memory is carried by survivors. The novel asks which one tells the truth.
Kingdoms fall. Bloodlines endure. The novel treats family not as sentiment but as architecture.
Empires crave expansion. Legacy demands restraint. Massinissa chooses the harder path.
Sophonisba is the woman Massinissa cannot keep. Her death shapes the next forty years of his reign.
Every gain demands a loss. The novel accounts for both, honestly, without flinching.
Berber. Carthaginian. Roman. Massinissa is all three and none of them. The novel asks what it means to belong to a place that does not yet have a name.
The final theme, and the question the saga is built to answer. The novel does not resolve it — it inherits it.
Every scene grounded in documented fact. Every character drawn from the record.

Biography
B. Ross Burley is a writer and historian whose work explores the civilizations that history has tried to forget. He has spent over a decade researching the Berber kingdoms of North Africa, the Punic Wars, and the long lineage of rulers who shaped the Mediterranean world without appearing in its textbooks.
Mission
To recover the stories that empires buried — and to prove that the measure of a civilization is not what it conquers, but what it remembers.
Writing Philosophy
I believe history is not the past. It is the blood that built us. I write to recover what was lost, not to romanticize what was. Every sentence is grounded in documented fact. Every character is drawn from the historical record. The fiction is in the silence between the sources — in the moments where history stops speaking and the novelist must listen for what was not said.
Previous Work
BrownBloods is Burley's first published saga. Massinissa is the opening volume. The seven-novel series spans over two thousand years, from ancient Numidia to twentieth-century America.
