The Book

MASSINISSA already exists as an object — cover, typography, presentation. What a publisher inherits is not a manuscript to shape, but a property ready to print.

The MASSINISSA Native Edition — the finished book with its presentation case and collector materials
The Native Edition — the finished book in its presentation case
MASSINISSA cover design — Book I of BROWNBLOODS

The cover design is approved and final — the title treated as an artifact, the name MASSINISSA set in the same bronze language that carries the BROWNBLOODS universe.

A collector edition of 624 numbered copies is already configured in the store — evidence that the property is commercial the day the manuscript is acquired.

Query Letter

Revised Query — B. Ross Burley

MASSINISSA query letter from B. Ross Burley, handwritten on parchment with quill, inkwell, and BROWNBLOODS wax seal

Dear Friend,

I am seeking representation for MASSINISSA, a standalone epic historical novel complete at approximately 240,000 words, with series potential.

MASSINISSA follows the rise of the Numidian king whose blade would help shape the outcome of the Second Punic War. Caught between the rival powers of Rome and Carthage, Massinissa must navigate shifting alliances, betrayal, love, and ambition as he fights to unite his fractured homeland. His decisions will not only determine the fate of Numidia but alter the course of one of history's greatest conflicts.

Drawing on years of historical research, MASSINISSA brings to life the kingdoms of ancient North Africa from an African perspective while remaining grounded in the historical record. It combines the political intrigue of imperial conflict with the sweep of epic historical fiction, exploring power, identity, loyalty, and legacy through one of antiquity's most influential yet overlooked rulers.

Beyond the manuscript, I have developed BROWNBLOODS as a larger literary and historical world — an interconnected seven-book epic supported by an original digital experience exploring the people, places, evidence, music, and historical worlds surrounding the novels. The books remain the center of the property. The platform exists to make the scale of that world visible without replacing the experience of reading it.

Thank you for your time and consideration. A private Native Edition of Chapters I and II is available below, and I would be delighted to provide the complete manuscript upon request.

Sincerely,

B. Ross Burley

MASSINISSA

The novel's cinematic language — the world rendered as prestige historical film.

CARTHAGE

The empire he was raised to fear — the Mediterranean world of the novel.

CANNAE

Some battles are remembered for who won. Others are remembered because the world was never the same afterward.
